With interest rates at a record low many investors are looking to put their money into the buy to let market as it is normally a relatively safe return. For years London was the buy to let hot spot but with escalating house prices this is no longer the case. Research carried out by the property site Zoopla found that Glasgow ‘enjoys a better return on investment that any other city in the UK’
Glasgow is a busy city with lots going on, it is renowned for its music scene, good restaurants & nightlife along with the best shopping found outside London. The attraction for many investors is relatively low purchase prices and rising rental income giving excellent yields (on average 8-10%).
The rental market in Glasgow is very strong with a high population of students (around 170,000) with the majority looking at the private housing market for somewhere to rent during their time at University. There is a shortage of rental properties on the market and this has pushed rental prices over the last 18 months to their highest levels maximising your return on your investment.
When you are ready to invest do your research online, remember to pick a property for the type of tenant you are looking for. It is always best to have an area in mind and budget and if you are looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom / old or new.
